These two vases feature a modular design, with forms spliced into sections to allow hybrid combinations of shapes and surfaces. While the stacked composition references contemporary cut-and-paste gestures, the meticulous sanding with diamond tools reinforces the tactile, time-intensive nature of ceramics. Earth tones define the exhibition’s palette, emerging from terra sigillata surfaces made with locally and globally sourced clays, including golden-yellow hues from North Carolina’s Catawba Valley.
